Councillor meets Duke

WILLINGDON and Polegate county councillor Stephen Shing met Prince Andrew to discuss the forthcoming Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, and London in 2012.

Stephen was a guest at the China Now! meeting launched as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations.

It saw the start of more than 200 high profile events across the UK showcasing the best of China now and it was aimed at bringing the excitement and atmosphere of contemporary China to the UK.

Stephen, pictured here with Prince Andrew, said: 'The overriding remit of the meeting was to shine the spotlight on the two countries due to host the most prestigious sporting event, the Olympics, and to look at common issues and take forward common solutions.

'I was honoured to meet with Prince Andrew.

'We briefly discussed the potential for improvements in the working relationships between the UK Chinese community with the mainstream communities and authorities.

'Prince Andrew clearly appreciated just how hard people were working to achieve excellent outcomes to so many co-operative issues.'

The event took place at the Mandarin Hotel, Knightsbridge. It was attended by more than 100 community representatives from across the UK and was hosted by David Tang, China Now! committee chairman.
