Councillor Mo Marsh wins Labour selection run-off

A long-serving Labour councillor has been re-selected to stand in Moulsecoomb and Bevendean.

Mo Marsh won a run-off against Harris Fitch, who was hoping to become the fourth generation of his family to serve as a councillor.

The run-off followed a controversial selection meeting - bordering on farce, amid a miscount and claims of an attempted "fix" in favour of Mr Fitch - when the two candidates tied last month.

Councillor Marsh will now contest her seat on Brighton and Hove City Council at the local elections in May next year, having topped the poll twice in her ward.

She will be standing alongside fellow councillors Anne Meadows and Leigh Farrow.

Cllr Marsh said: 'I'm thrilled and delighted to be re-selected for the ward I've represented since 2007 - with a clear mandate of 11 votes to 1 - and delighted this was done entirely by ward members.

'We had a quorum and didn't need to have any of the executive members having to vote.'
