Councillors’ concern after 20mph poll

TWO COUNTY councillors have expressed concerns around a proposed 20mph scheme for Worthing after Herald readers voted against the plans.

Michael Cloake and Roger Oakley were part of Worthing County Local Committee, which unanimously voted for a public consultation costing up to £50,000.

But they both have worries after hearing of the results of the Herald poll, in which 83 per cent of readers said ‘no’ to 20mph limits.

Mr Oakley said: “I have spoken to the Herald about the poll and I am quite satisfied that it is an honest reflection of the views of Worthing residents.

“In light of this, I shall be asking members of the CLC at the next meeting how to properly respond.”

Mr Oakley said while he was mindful the CLC was committed to the consultation, he was also concerned the overall result would be similar to the poll.
