Emergency services are searching for a person in the sea off the coast of Brighton, according to Sussex Police.

The incident was reported to Sussex Police shortly after 9am on Saturday (March 25).

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Emergency services are responding to concerns for a person in the water.

“The situation is currently ongoing.

“The Coastguard has the lead but police are also supporting.”

A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard said they received a call shortly after 9am.

She said: “We received a call that somebody was in the water.

“We sent our Shoreham Coastguard, our search and rescue helicopter from Lydd and the Brighton RNLI Lifeboat team is also assisting.

“We have been joined by crews from Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service.

“The situation is currently ongoing and we have no further information at this time.”
