Sue Heard said the items were stolen outside her property in Church Street, Bexhill Old Town, on Wednesday night.

She reported the incident to police but asked people to keep an eye out for them, in neighbours' gardens in particular.

Sue said: "I'm so gutted. We work hard to make it look nice and put little messages in the window for people passing to give them a smile."

Appealing for information, Sue's partner Mike Murphy said: "We try to keep our little house looking nice for Bexhill and those passing.

"(The pots) are too heavy to carry, so they (the thieves) put them in their van or car and it wasn’t just some drunk on the way home as they’re not in a hedge or smashed up 20 yards down the road.

"A neighbour told us that they were gone this morning."

Sue said she has been made aware that other potted plants were also stolen around Bexhill Old Town on the same evening.

"I know some people may just think it’s a few pots and plants but we work hard to make the house nice and we are proud of it and our street and our neighbours," she added.

"I would like to thank the Bexhill community who have been brilliant on Facebook, upset for us, asking us to keep posting our little feel good messages in the window (indeed we have some requests for dedications as a result) so it’s difficult to hear that our wee house brings so much pleasure to people only for some mindless individuals to spoil it for the many.

"The local community have been so kind."

Sue asked anyone with information to contact Sussex Police.
