Purchase also admitted to distributing five category A images of children.

The charges relating to making indecent images of children and animals all took place on or between December 21, 2015, and November 22, 2017.

Purchase was charged with distributing the category A images on or between October 22, 2017, and November 3, 2017.

Speaking for the prosecution, Gaynor Byng said the distribution of category A images required sentencing powers beyond the magistrates’ court and recommended the case be heard at crown court.

Purchase’s defence counsel, Adrian Butt, argued psychiatric and probation reports were needed before any sentences could be handed out.

Chairman of the bench William Gibbons granted Purchase unconditional bail and ordered him to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on December 22 for sentencing.
