Boy, 17, charged with murder of iconic Sussex restaurant owner

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder after the owner of one of Sussex’s most iconic restaurants was found dead in her home.

Susan Addis, 69, was found with stab wounds in her Cedars Gardens home in Brighton on Thursday evening (January 7), according to Sussex Police.

Susan, who owned restaurants in the city including the famous Donatello’s in The Lanes, was known to the suspect and police are not currently looking for anyone else.

The 17-year-old suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged last night and is to appear at Brighton Magistrates Court today (January 9).

A postmortem scheduled for Monday (January 11) is expected to confirm Susan’s cause of death.

In a statement, Susan’s family said: “At this very sad and distressing time, the family kindly asks that all media respect their privacy. The family are currently in a state of shock”.

The investigation is being carried out by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, working with local officers.
