Hailsham Town Council tweeted today that Environment Hailsham, the charity which maintains the area, is appealing for witnesses after nearby flowers were uprooted and left around the memorial.

Richard Grocock, chairman of Environment Hailsham, said, “Someone has decided to empty one of the flower beds and redesign everything and put it around the memorial.

“I find it very disrespectful. We have had to come out this morning and replant it all.

“If the vandals don’t like the way we garden our designs they can come and join us and tell us how to do it better. They are just mindless. We have to raise our own funds for this.”
