41. Locked up in Sussex 2022: These are some of the criminals jailed between January and April
A 42-year-old man from Stone Cross was intercepted by police while carrying cocaine in his car with a potential value of up to £400,000. Christopher Morris, of Glessing Road, is now starting a six-year prison sentence, police confirmed. Morris was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on April 11, having previously admitted possession of five kilos of cocaine with intent to supply, and money laundering – said police. Morris had just left his home on December 15 last year when he was stopped by officers from the Specialist Enforcement Unit (SEU). Officers confirmed they found a bag containing two other bags, one with four one-kilo packs of cocaine with a potential street value of up to £400,000, and the other one with £40,000 cash. At his home they found a further quantity of cocaine and several thousands pounds more cash, police confirmed. Police say Morris claimed to be carrying the drugs and cash under duress for dealers, but was unable to produce any evidence to support this, and had no option but to admit his guilt. A dangerous driver whose friend died in a Horsham crash in 2019 has been jailed, Sussex Police have said. Police said that Mark Leadbeatter, 60, of The Spinney, Pulborough, was over the limit for prescription drugs when he was involved in a head-on collision. Police said he was driving a Nissan Almera when he crossed into the opposite carriageway and crashed into an Audi SQ5. Police also said that ‘numerous witnesses’ reported Leadbeatter’s vehicle being driven in ‘an extremely erratic manner’ between Pulborough and Horsham earlier that day. He was sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment on April 12 for causing death by dangerous driving; two years for causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and one year for driving whilst uninsured, to run concurrently (nine years total). He was also disqualified from driving for five years and must take an extended retest should he wish to drive again. Photo: Sussex Police

43. Locked up in Sussex 2022: These are some of the criminals jailed between January and April
A Brighton man who was already banned from Churchill Square for shoplifting has been jailed for 58 weeks for breaching his ban and committing multiple more thefts. Shaun Foryann, 34, of Middle Street, had been given a Community Protection Order forbidding him from entering locations including Churchill Square, Western Road and North Street in September 2021, for persistent shoplifting and anti-social behaviour. He was also serving a suspended sentence for 16 counts of shoplifting. But on February 9 he was confronted by Churchill Square security after entering the Apple store and on Sunday and Monday, March 27 and 28, he was caught on CCTV in Vision Express stealing £2,810-worth of sunglasses. Foryann was also captured on CCTV stealing more than £600 of products from Hugo Boss in East Street on February 27, and returned three days later to steal a pair of tracksuit bottoms worth £139. On March 29, Foryann was chased out of JoJo jewellers in Kensington Gardens as he brazenly attempted to steal jewellery worth around £1,000, but dropped a tray on the floor. Photo: Sussex Police
![A woman who plotted to kidnap, torture and murder a former lover by following a detailed ‘to-do-list’ has been jailed. Sophie George, 20, of Highbrook Close in Brighton, was jailed for 13-and-a-half years on April 6 after pleading guilty to attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, police said. It followed an incident shortly after midnight on October 10, 2020, in which George, who was 18 at the time, arranged to be picked up by a man who was known to her. Officers arrested George on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and possession of a bladed article. However, a search of her shopping bags and address uncovered even more ‘sinister’ intentions, said police. A search of her address also found a number of notes in the form of ‘to-do lists’, featuring plans including ‘drive to grave site’, ‘tourture [sic]’ and ‘walk him to site, kill and bury’. George was charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon. She pleaded guilty at trial in May, 2021. She was remanded in custody and sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on April 6. The bags contained protective clothing, bleach, duct tape and a Stanley knife – all linked to plans to kidnap, murder and cover up her crimes, police added.](https://www.sussexexpress.co.uk/webimg/b25lY21zOjBiNjJkODI2LTgxMmQtNGEzYi1hOTM0LWI4YmNiYzE4MzE2MzpkNzI0YmZlZC0zMzU0LTQ0ZTctYWE2NS0wMGE1NTJjNDQyNGM=.jpg?crop=4:3&trim=&width=640)
