Two men have been jailed over two burglaries - one near Robertsbridge, north of Hastings. They broke into a property in Sheepstreet Lane, Etchingham, and another at Eridge Road, Groombridge, near Tunbridge Wells, on the same day last month, officers said. Justin Collins, 44, of no fixed abode, and James Dunnett, 29, from Franklin Road, Penge, both pleaded guilty to burglary and other charges. A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Collins was given a six-year sentence at Brighton Crown Court for two counts of burglary, one count of criminal damage and driving while disqualified. Dunnett was sentenced to 32 months imprisonment at Brighton Magistrates’ Court for two counts of burglary and one count of possession of a bladed weapon.” Police were called at around 2.20pm on January 18 by a member of the public who had spotted some suspicious behaviour at the property in Etchingham, near Robertsbridge. A blue Vauxhall Astra was seen leaving the scene and four hours later was picked up by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras in Kent, the spokesperson for Sussex Police added. Officers from Kent Police stopped the car on the M25 and recovered a quantity of jewellery from inside. It matched jewellery reported stolen during the Etchingham burglary, and a second burglary that had taken place at a property in Eridge Road, Groombridge, around 4.30pm that day. The two occupants of the car, Collins and Dunnett, were arrested and returned to Sussex for interview. Photo: Sussex Police

12. Locked up in Sussex 2022: These are some of the criminals jailed between January and April
A 30-year-old woman from Sussex who tried to set fire to a family home with two young children inside has been jailed. Talisa Windsor, of Amberley Drive, Hove, was jailed for six years, including a further three on extended licence, at Chichester Crown Court on February 18 after being found guilty of attempted arson reckless as to endangering life, police confirmed. At 6.35pm on May 11 Windsor was seen on CCTV pouring 3.7 litres of petrol – which she had recently stolen from a nearby petrol station - around the front door of a property in Moyne Close, Hove. The footage shows her attempt to set the petrol alight by filling a broken bottle with petrol and tissue and throwing it at the door – but it failed to ignite. Windsor also tried to throw a brick through a front window, police say. According to police, officers called after members of the public reported smelling petrol and Windsor was witnessed filling the bottle with petrol nearby. She was swiftly arrested while officers visited the Moyne Close address to ensure the safety of the occupants, who had escaped. It was later revealed Windsor had sent a number of threatening messages to the occupants in the days leading up to the incident - including several death threats, police confirmed. Police say she was charged with attempted arson with intent to endanger life, remanded in custody and in October was found guilty of attempted arson reckless as to endangering life by a jury.
