A Hampshire man is beginning a 23-year sentence after being found guilty of committing 19 sexual offences against children while living in Billingshurst, Sussex Police has reported. A 14-year-old boy has been sentenced to four years in a youth offenders institute following a stabbing in Worthing earlier this year, Sussex Police have said. They said police patrolling Worthing town centre on March 13 were flagged down by a boy, who was 13 at the time, who had ‘sustained wounds to his leg and shoulder’. This followed an earlier verbal altercation in the town centre between two groups of youths, said police, adding that officers provided immediate first aid before the boy was taken to hospital and later discharged. Sussex Police said the boy pleaded guilty to the offences and appeared before Lewes Crown Court where he was sentenced to four years in a youth offenders institute, plus two years on extended licence. They confirmed that three youths were released with no further action, and said the remaining three were discounted by the Crown Prosecution Service and will face no further action. A man has been jailed after police said they found his DNA at the scene of a burglary in Hastings. Officers attended Cafe Royale in Castle Street following a break-in in the early hours of the morning on September 7. Police said entry had been forced into the premises causing damage to a door, and the till and tip box containing around £300 taken from inside. Police added that they viewed the cafe’s CCTV and saw a man entering the site with a carton of milk, which he put down while trying to remove the till, and then left behind at the scene. The bottle was forensically examined and proved a DNA match for Jake Finn, 22, unemployed, of Dymchurch Road in Hythe, Kent, Sussex Police said. Finn was then arrested and charged with burglary other than dwelling with intent to steal. Police said he was also charged with two counts of theft in relation to alcohol being stolen from the Jempson’s supermarket in Peasmarsh on September 10. He appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, October 8 and was convicted of all three offences. Police said he was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison for the burglary, and one week for each shoplifting offence to run concurrently. He was also ordered to pay £300 in compensation.
