Two men have been sentenced after a vehicle was petrol bombed in Mile Oak. Just before 11pm on June 19, 2023, a residential street was stirred by the sound of exploding glass after petrol bombs were launched at a vehicle outside an address in Graham Avenue. When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle ablaze outside of the property. A petrol bomb had also ignited the shrubbery outside of the address which spread to the front gardens of neighbouring houses. Following CCTV enquiries, forensic testing and an extensive investigation, Ashley Khan (left), 31, of Rodmell Avenue in Saltdean and his brother Nathan Thomas (right), 33, of no fixed address, were found at the centre of all enquiries and were arrested in relation to the arson. They were further arrested for possession with intent to supply cocaine after large quantities were found during a search of Khan's home address. Khan was also arrested for possession of cannabis. Khan was charged on June 24, 2023 in relation to the arson and drugs offences, and was remanded in custody. Thomas was later charged on August 8, 2023 with arson and possession with intent to supply cocaine and was also remanded in custody. After a three week trial at Chichester Crown Court in December 2023, both Khan and Thomas were found guilty of conspiracy to commit arson and possession with intent to supply cocaine. Khan was also found guilty of possession of cannabis. They were sentenced together at Hove Crown Court on February 9, with Khan receiving a prison sentence of five years and six months and Thomas receiving a four year term. Photo: Sussex Police

A speeding driver killed a pedestrian at a zebra crossing then drove away and covered the damage to his vehicle. Sharon Abraham reached an estimated 52mph in a 30mph zone driving in a Lexus in Upperton Road, Eastbourne on July 26 last year. He failed to stop for 75-year-old Andrew Forrest who was crossing the road. After striking Mr Forrest, he drove away and did not report the collision to police. The collision happened just hours after Abraham had passed his driving test. He had previously held a driving licence abroad for nine years, and was then required to take a full UK driving test. Tragically, Mr Forrest died as a result of his injuries. At Lewes Crown Court on April 25, Abraham appeared for sentencing after admitting causing death by dangerous driving. The 27-year-old, a student formerly of Compton Street, Eastbourne, was jailed for six years and was disqualified from driving for eight years. The sentence would have been nine years in prison had the case gone to trial, but it was reduced because of Abraham’s early guilty plea. Abraham will also have to take an extended re-test before he can drive again. Photo: Sussex Police
