9. Locked up in Sussex 2024: These are some of the criminals jailed between January and April
An organised crime group have been sentenced for their roles in supplying drugs disguised as bath salts and beauty products. The group used products in an effort to ship class A and class B drugs to the USA and Australia via courier services. But the vast majority of packages were intercepted either in the UK or in the recipient countries, prompting a police inquiry. Sussex Police officers attended rented premises at Truleigh Hill near Shoreham, where about £1 million in MDMA was located inside two holdall bags. Following a thorough investigation, eight people have been convicted for their roles in the criminal enterprise. At Hove Crown Court on January 12 the final defendants appeared for sentence. Alexander Griffin (pictured) was linked to the organised group. He was observed by officers in central Brighton entering a 'stash' vehicle which contained 4,000 suspected class A drugs tablets in the Churchill Square shopping centre car park in August 2019. The estimated street value of the drugs was worth more than £320,000. Officers observed him interacting with brothers Dean Mazirel and Oliver Mazirel in Canon Place, before the brothers were also later arrested. Alexander Griffin, 37, formerly a financial consultant of Ninfield Road, Bexhill, admitted conspiring to fraudulently evade any duty or prohibition, or restriction or provision, contrary to the Criminal Law Act. He was sentenced to six years in prison during a hearing in May 2023. Photo: Sussex Police

12. Locked up in Sussex 2024: These are some of the criminals jailed between January and April
A man has been jailed for vicious domestic abuse offences in Hove and Burgess Hill. Matthew Pahlavan, 41, of New Church Road, Hove pleaded guilty to putting a person in fear of violence by harassment, assault, and sending communications with intent to cause distress. There were numerous incidents between February 2023 and September 2023 which involved Pahlavan causing harm and distress to the same victim, a 41-year-old woman. Pahlavan, an estate agent owner, would hit his victim, verbally abuse her, threaten her, repeatedly call her and track her. On one occasion, she received over 100 emails in one day from her abuser. During an incident on April 22 in Burgess Hill, the victim returned home from work, where Pahlavan was waiting outside for her. He attempted to block her in and rammed into her car. She managed to get away but he followed her. Police were called on September 18 and an investigation was launched. Pahlavan was jailed for two years and handed a restraining order against the victim until 2031 when he appeared at Lewes Crown Court on January 22. Photo: Sussex Police
