A man who sexually assaulted a woman while she slept on board a flight has been sentenced. Momade Jussab, 66, was sat next to the victim in the aircraft bound for Gatwick from Doha in Qatar. The victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had not met Jussab before. She awoke during the flight to find he was sexually assaulting her. When the aircraft landed, she reported her experience to police, and she has received support from specially trained officers. Police investigated and Jussab was arrested. He was subsequently charged with one count of sexual assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault, and was found guilty after a trial in March. At Lewes Crown Court on May 12, Jussab, of Swinfield Close, Feltham, was jailed for six-and-a-half years as part of an extended sentence. It means he will not be released automatically half way through his sentence, but will instead have to serve at least two thirds of the sentence in prison before he can be considered for parole. Jussab was also placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely. The court was told about how the incident happened on September 28 last year. The victim recalled how cabin lights were switched off and most passengers were asleep during the flight when the sexual assaults took place. The crimes continue to have an ongoing impact on the victim. Photo: Sussex Police

A prolific burglar has been jailed after admitting his latest offences in Bognor. Tristram Francis entered a Co-op store in Pagham to steal alcohol and charity collection boxes containing cash. He smashed his way into the front of the shop, then left the area. But officers from Bognor Response attended the store and identified him on CCTV footage, and he was arrested soon after. The 42-year-old was charged with two business burglaries and one count of going equipped, after officers found him in possession of a hammer, crowbar, Stanley knife and a screwdriver. Francis, of Felpham Road, Bognor, was in breach of a suspended sentence for similar offences. He appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on April 28 where he admitted the three charges, and was jailed for a total of eight months. The court was told how the theft was reported at 2am on April 26 after an alarm sounded at the Co-op store. Officers attended the store and viewed CCTV footage. They located Francis nearby, still wearing the same clothes as those in the CCTV footage. Photo: Sussex Police

The vehicle hit a phone box on a bend, leaving a passenger in the vehicle with serious injuries in the wreckage. Lee was arrested and was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving. At Lewes Crown Court on April 25 he appeared for sentencing after admitting the charge. Lee, of Forest Close, Horsham, was jailed for two years, and disqualified from driving for two years and eight months. The court was told about how the incident happened after 2am on December 8, 2023. Officers followed the Ford Fiesta as it drove out of Brighton on the A23, and activated blue lights after Lee reached speeds of 100mph in a 60mph zone.
