Sahil Ali used social media to contact the girls, using violence and threats to rape and sexually abuse them between 2022 and 2024. The offences were often committed in his car, where he would overpower the vulnerable girls. The 21-year-old stood trial and was found guilty at Lewes Crown Court on March 6 for seven counts of rape, one count of intentional strangulation, and one count of sexual assault by penetration. Ali, a British national, formerly of an address in West Sussex, was sentenced to 18 years in prison, with a further five years added on licence for dangerousness. This means he will not be released automatically halfway through serving his sentence, but must serve a minimum of two thirds of his sentence before he can be considered for parole. He was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restricting his access to children and computer equipment, was also imposed until further order. A 'despicable' former East Sussex school housemaster has been jailed for string of serious sexual offences against children. Sussex Police said Raymond Langley, 76, was the housemaster/bursar at a school – in the Wealden district of East Sussex – during the 1970s. In 2021, an investigation was launched after a man reported being sexually abused at the school, police said. Police said enquiries identified two victims, who were ‘subjected to abuse’. "One victim reported how Langley would shower with the students and invite some to sleep in his room to ‘avoid bullies’,” a police spokesperson said. “Langley would sexually abuse the victim, then a teenager, repeatedly during these interactions. The second victim reported being sexually abused in a similar way by Langley, including being shown pornographic material by Langley in his room before being abused.” Police said both victims were given specialist support when the offences were disclosed, and a ‘thorough investigation was launched’. In June 2024, Langley – of Clarendon Road in Hove – was charged with four counts of buggery of a boy under 16, four counts of indecent sexual assault and eight counts of indecency with a child, police said. The spokesperson added: “A jury took just two hours of deliberation to find him guilty of all charges at Lewes Crown Court on September 22. At the same court on Friday (October 10), Langley was sentenced to 20 years in prison.” Photo: Sussex Police

A drink-driver who killed a teenage motorcyclist in a head-on collision has been jailed for eight years. Toby Spiring was driving his father’s Mazda CX-5 northbound on the B2133 at Newpound, near Wisborough Green, when he overtook another car. Moments later, he collided with 19-year-old Aidan Venison, who had been riding his Lexmoto motorcycle in the opposite direction. Despite the best efforts of members of the public and paramedics, Aidan was tragically declared deceased at the scene. The incident happened in the early hours of June 30, 2024, just two days before Aidan was due to turn 20. Spiring – who had been drinking with a friend at a pub in Billingshurst earlier that evening – was subsequently arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He was twice the legal drink-driving limit. The 28-year-old, of Howard Place, Littlehampton, pleaded guilty to the offence and appeared before Lewes Crown Court on October 14, where he was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment. The sentence was reduced from 12 years for Spiring’s early guilty plea. He was also given a five-year disqualification which takes effect on the date of his release from prison, and must take an extended re-test if he wishes to drive again. Photo: Sussex Police
