A man involved in a break-in at a jewellery shop in Bognor has been sentenced. Freddie Stevens was shown smashing through shutters at The Arcade in the High Street in a stolen vehicle. Footage showed how he gained entry to Clayden and Co jewellers and took stock worth an estimated £30,000. Officers arrived at the scene within minutes after an alarm was triggered. An investigation was launched, and the movements of stolen vehicles were traced. One vehicle, a Range Rover Evoque, was found burnt out on the A29 at Slindon, which was en-route to Stevens’ home in Bordon, Hampshire. Back at the scene in Bognor, investigating officers found Stevens’ DNA inside the store. Stevens was arrested and charged with burglary and two counts of taking a motor vehicle without the owners’ consent. At Chichester Crown Court on January 27, Stevens, 22, of Gibbs Lane, Bordon, Hampshire, was jailed for two years. The court was told about how two Range Rovers were stolen in Yapton and Pulborough in the early hours of November 11. One vehicle was seen driving to The Arcade shopping centre in Bognor, smashing through a shutter and along the pedestrianised thoroughfare. The thieves forced entry into The Arcade via the High Street, but damage was also caused at the entrance in Belmont Street. Images showed a driver and one man who matched Stevens’ description taking apart shutters at the front of the jewellery shop inside. An alarm was activated at the jewellery store at 2.12am, and within four minutes the vehicle had left the area. The damage caused to the shopping centre meant all stores were closed for two days for repairs to be made. Meanwhile the owner of Clayden and Co reported that as much as half of their stock was taken, causing a significant impact in the run up to Christmas. Photo: Sussex Police

Fabrizio Broussett was stopped at Gatwick Airport trying to fly to France to meet a teenage girl he had been sexually abusing. Broussett, 23, of Chartham Road in Croydon, came to the attention of Sussex Police in April 2025, when Counter Terror officers seized his mobile phone as part of a separate investigation. The phone had no evidence of terror offences. But officers did find 18,000 videos – some depicting violent sexual abuse of a girl in France – and 33,000 messages with the teenager. Broussett had images of her ID card and passport confirming she was under the age of consent, and many of the messages were degrading and sexually aggressive. The victim was not related to Broussett. Sussex Police engaged with Interpol to conduct urgent welfare checks on the victim, who located her and made sure she was in no further danger. On May 18, 2025, Broussett was arrested at Gatwick Airport attempting to board a flight to Lyon, France. Further enquiries found Broussett had visited the victim for two separate weeks in February and April, 2025, booking BnBs in the Saint-Etienne area. There was also evidence Broussett was planning to meet her again before he was detained. He was charged with two counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child, four counts of making indecent images of a child, three counts of arranging/facilitating a child sex offence and one count of engaging in sexual communication with a child. Broussett admitted all the charges at Croydon Crown Court on July 11, 2025. At the same court on February 17, he was jailed for 15 years, with another three spent on extended licence. He was also given a 20-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and indefinitely placed on the sex offenders register and barred from working with children and vulnerable people. Photo: Sussex Police

Burglar, James Filan has been jailed after he targeted properties in the Regency area in Brighton. On January 6, two burglaries at addresses in close proximity to each other were reported to police. The first occurred at Metropole Court after Filan was seen approaching a property on CCTV. Soon after, the door was found forced open by neighbours, but Filan had already fled the scene. The same day, it was also reported that a property in Regency Square had been burgled. Items including electronics were taken from the address. Enquiries at a local electronic resale shop in Western Road uncovered that Filan had sold them the stolen goods soon after the burglary in Regency Square took place. Filan was tracked down and arrested on January 21 in North Wales. Brighton Detectives made the journey to Wales, and Filan was charged with burglary, and burglary with intent to steal. James Filan, 45, of Lysons Road, Hampshire appeared at Llandudno Magistrates' Court on January 23 where he was remanded in custody. Following a guilty plea at Lewes Crown Court on February 20, Filan was jailed for three years. Photo: Sussex Police
