A prolific burglar has been jailed after committing a series of offences in Worthing. Lee Gibson, 38, of no fixed address, was arrested after he broke into a house in Marine Parade in the early hours of 20 April and stole items including an electric scooter, car keys, a wallet and an iPad. The occupants reported the incident to police but were unable to provide a description as they did not see the suspect. Therefore, Dog Unit officer PC Ryan Ashworth was deployed along with Police Dog Cara. She tracked from the scene to Montague Street, where the suspect was found. He was challenged but made off on a bicycle. Meanwhile, PC Ashworth noticed an electric scooter matching the description of the one stolen in an encampment in the doorway of a disused building nearby. He continued to search for Gibson – assisted by CCTV operators – while other officers remained with the stolen property, and Gibson was eventually found hiding in a stairwell in Augusta Place. During his arrest, he resisted officers and was abusive and threatening towards them. He was subsequently arrested for burglary and assaulting a police officer. The items he stole were recovered and Gibson was remanded in custody to prevent further offending. In the meantime, detectives were able to charge him with numerous other offences he was linked to. He was charged with burglary at Cock’s Kitchen Café in Brighton Road on September 7, 2022, after his DNA was found on a bottle of beer left at the scene. He was further charged with burglary at The Cricketers Inn, in Broadwater, on April 19 this year after he was identified on CCTV. Gibson was also charged with theft, criminal damage and possession of cannabis at Lidl in North Street on March 17. And he was charged with burglary at The Park View pub in Salvington Road on March 31 this year after again being identified on CCTV. Gibson appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on April 21, where he pleaded guilty to all offences and was further remanded in custody. He then appeared before Lewes Photo: Sussex Police

A drug dealer who supplied crack cocaine and heroin in Brighton and Hove has been jailed for over four years. Tyler Katemauswa, 21, formerly of Wordsworth Street in Hove, was first arrested in September 2021, after a member of the public reported seeing him dealing drugs near his home. Officers attended and observed Katemauswa continuing to carry out deals. He was chased into nearby Wilbury Road and arrested for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs after wraps of drugs and multiple mobile phones were found nearby. His home was also searched and found to have Class A drugs, items linked to drug dealing and weapons. Analysis of his mobile phones showed Katemauswa was the operator of the OSCAR deal line, with multiple messages advertising to drug users. While released under investigation, the line was shown to have reactivated and call data showed it moved with Katemauswa as he changed address in Brighton and Hove to continue his activity. He was arrested again in January, 2022, for an unrelated matter and his mobile phone was found to once again be linked to drug dealing under a different number. Katemauswa was charged with possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine and being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine. At Hove Crown Court on May 30, he was sentenced to 51 months in prison having pleaded guilty to all charges. Photo: Sussex Police
