A 76-year-old man has been sentenced to six years, with three to be spent in prison, after being convicted of stalking offences. Geoffrey Lower, a British national of Stanmer Villas, Brighton, terrified his three victims by sending multiple, graphic messages, leaving them voicemails and turning up at their homes between March and December 2025. During police interviews, Lower claimed he thought the women - aged 24, 35 and 51 - were interested in a relationship with him. Some of Lower’s victims were women who worked for agencies assigned to support him after prior stalking offences. One victim had to start working from home because she feared Lower would turn up at her place of work. The incidents were reported to Sussex Police, Lower was arrested and subsequently charged with three offences of stalking causing serious alarm or distress. The women have all been supported by specialist officers. He pleaded guilty at Lewes Crown Court to all charges and, on May 27, was sentenced to six years and given a 10-year restraining order against two of the victims and is subject to a Stalking Protection Order, in addition to his custodial sentence. A 38-year-old man has been jailed for four years following a robbery in Brighton. Daniel Bowler, 38, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on June 9. Police were called to a report of a robbery at Tesco Express, Jubilee Street at around 10.25pm on March 14. Security had been threatened by a man with a knife who was attempting to steal from the shop. Officers arrived at the scene within five minutes of the call to find staff had secured themselves and several customers inside the store. After confirming that no one had been injured, officers began making initial enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident. CCTV showed Bowler loading a basket with alcohol. A member of security observed his behaviour, and deeming it as suspicious, placed himself between the Bowler and the shop door as Bowler attempted to leave without paying for the items. Bowler proceeded to threaten violence and pulled a knife from his trousers. Quick thinking from the security guard saw Bowler ejected from the shop while recovering as many bottles of alcohol as he could before locking the doors to the store. Following investigation, officers identified Bowler and arrested him on March 21 on suspicion of robbery. He was charged the next day with robbery and possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place, and the following morning (March 23) appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded into custody. Bowler appeared at Lewes Crown court on April 20 and pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, on June 9, he appeared at Lewes Crown Court again and pleaded guilty to both offences. Daniel Bowler, 38, of no fixed address was jailed for four years and ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge. Photo: Sussex Police
