13. Locked up in Sussex: These are some of the criminals jailed in October 2026
A 31-year-man has been jailed for one year and nine months for stalking. Robert Beckman, who resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan, caused his victim serious distress by sending him messages online and in the post, commenting on social media posts and travelling to the UK in order to meet him. Beckman was arrested at Gatwick Airport on August 25 after taking a flight from Boston with the intention of meeting the victim. He was charged with stalking causing serious alarm or distress that same day. Beckman pleaded guilty to stalking when he appeared at Lewes Crown Court on September 23. He returned to the court on October 29, and was sentenced to one year and nine months imprisonment. He was also given a restraining order for 10 years and ordered not to enter the UK. Beckman was previously given a police caution by the Metropolitan Police for harassing the same victim in October 2021. Despite returning to the USA and being told not to contact the victim, Beckman persisted with his communications. Photo: Sussex Police
