Man charged with hate crime after Pride flag burnt in Brighton

A man has been arrested and charged with hate crime-related arson after a Pride flag was set on fire in Brighton.

Officers said Moulay Abdelhakim Ismaili, 36, was detained on suspicion of committing a homophobic hate-related crime after a Pride flag was taken from a garden in Beaconsfield Road and burned at about 9.55pm on Sunday (August 2).

Police said Ismaili, of Beaconsfield Road, was remanded in custody to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (August 4).

Sussex Police said they are committed to fully investigating reports of hate crime and urged anyone who has been a victim of or has witnessed one, to either report online, call 101, or 999 if it is an emergency.
