Man fined after failing to isolate in Crawley after flight from Senegal

In a post on Twitter, Crawley-based police officer Pat Nixon said he was 'asked to perform a coronavirus check' on Friday (March 5).

PC Nixon said his job was to ensure a man, who flew in from Senegal, was self-isolating, in accordance with UK Government Covid-19 travel rules.

"Unfortunately, as I arrived he pulled up in his vehicle with his child unrestrained," the police officer wrote.

"[A] £1,000 Covid fine [was] issued along with a traffic offence report for his lack of a child seat."

Sussex Police Chief Constable Jo Shiner praised PC Nixon for his 'great work'. Her social media post added: "Expensive trip out, £1,000 fine, putting his child and the public at risk."

Government rules states that, if you’re travelling to England, you must either quarantine in the place you’re staying or in a managed quarantine hotel for ten days.
