A roofer from Hove has been sent to prison for a rape in Shoreham in the 1990s.

Jason Podesta was arrested in 2014 after the victim reported what had happened and last week he was sent to prison for eight years.

The 47-year-old, now from Portland Road in Hove, was convicted at Chichester Crown Court on Tuesday, September 13 after standing trial.

The offence happened in September 1993 in Shoreham. Podesta was 24 at the time.

Detective Constable Beccy Hopkins said: “The victim never told anyone at the time and only bravely came forward in 2014 to report what had happened 20 years before.

“She had lived for all these years with what happened to her but decided Podesta needed to face up to his actions.

“Although this happened a long time ago, we thoroughly investigated to arrest and charge Podesta and last week he was sent to prison.
