Police launch arson investigation after Brighton flat fire

Sussex Police has launched an arson investigation after a fire at a Brighton flat.

A spokesman confirmed officers recieved a report of the fire at the property in Kingswood Street about 10.1pm yesterday (April 16).

He added: “The fire – which was out by the time officers arrived at the scene five minutes later – was contained to the front door of a property, causing minimal damage.

“The flat was unoccupied when officers arrived. However, police have since engaged with the residents to ensure their welfare.”

The incident is being investigated as arson, according to the spokesman.

He said: “Police are urging anyone with any information to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 1566 of 16/04.

“You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or report it online. www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue spokeswoman confirmed one fire engine attended the incident.

She added: “One fire engine attended - on arrival there was no fire but there was some singeing to a door.

“Police were in attendance. Crews gained entry to the flat.”
