Public help detain alleged Horsham Sainsbury’s shoplifter

Members of the public helped detain an alleged shoplifter carrying a knife in Horsham Sainsbury’s last night (Monday October 28).

Horsham police received reports of the incident at around 7.30pm.

Sergeant Chris O’Leary, of Horsham police, said: “At around 7.30pm we received a call from Sainsbury’s to say that they had a detained shoplifter in the store who was being non-compliant.”

One witness describes members of the public intervening with the incident.

Officers quickly attended and recovered a knife from the scene, Sussex Police said.

Sgt O’Leary added one adult male is in custody today (October Tuesday 29).
