Second week of lockdown sees 53 people arrested in Hastings and Rother

A total of 53 people were arrested in Hastings and Rother last week - the second since the government announced a partial lockdown in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Hastings Police said people were detained on suspicion of a range of different offences.

They included theft, assault, drug driving, criminal damage, aggravated burglary, and possession of an imitation firearm, a spokesman said.

Hastings Police said: "Despite social distancing measures, our officers have still been responding to your crimes, resulting in 53 arrests across the Hastings and Rother districts."

The week before last - the first following Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced stricter social distancing measures - 47 people were arrested across Hastings and Rother.

The week before that saw 55 arrests.
