Singapore cash snatched in Horsham raid

Police are investigating a burglary and a separate hit and run incident in Horsham.

Valuable jewellery and cash in various currency was snatched from the house in Woodgates Close, overnight on Friday 13 to Saturday 14 December whilst the occupants were away.

Chinese gold bracelets, pendants, lockets, watches ear-rings and necklaces valued at £20,000 were taken.

Also taken were various amounts of different currencies: £1,800 to £2,000 in UK Sterling; £300 to to 400 in Swedish Kroners; £1,000 in US dollars; £300 to 400 in Singapore Dollars and; £500 worth in Mauritian Rupees and £400 worth in Hong Kong Dollars.

Detective Constable Karen Young said: “If anyone saw suspicious activity in the area at that time, or has been offered jewellery or currency like this since 14 December, we ask them to contact us via 101 or email [email protected] quoting serial 237 of 14/12. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Meanwhile, police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was struck by a car in Crawley Road, Horsham.

The 55-year-old victim, from Horsham, was hit by the wing mirror of the vehicle outside The Star Inn at about 10.15pm on Thursday December 12, say Sussex Police.

The silver car, which may have been a Mercedes, did not stop after the collision.

PC Wayne Dixon said: “Fortunately the victim only suffered bruising in the collision but that is no excuse for the car driver not to have stopped.

“If you were in the area and saw what happened, or if you have any information at all, please contact us.”
