Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in St Leonards.

Officers were called around 7pm on Wednesday (August 12) to reports of an altercation between two men in London Road.

Police said the men both headed into Silchester Road, where one of them suffered injuries to his face and back.

It is thought a number of people were present in the area at the time, and police are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting serial 1503 of 12/08.

Police said a 52-year-old man from St Leonards was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He has been released under investigation.
