Sussex Police issue new warning over TV licence scams

A fresh warning over TV licence scams has gone out from Sussex Police.

They say people should be on the lookout for any emails or letters from TV Licensing asking to update personal or banking details, renew their licence or apply for a refund.

A spokesman said: “Although emails, letters and phone calls can seem genuine, be cautious of any requests for payment or personal details.”

Police say that TV Licensing will only email people from the addressses ‘[email protected]’ or ‘[email protected]’.

They will only contact people by post using the address TV Licensing, PO Box578, Darlington DL98 1AN and they will only contact people online at tvl.co.uk/75pay or tvl.co.uk/75apply, or via gov.uk/tv-licence, or over the phone from the number 0300 790 6151.

The spokesman added: “If you are contacted and asked to pay for your TV licence using a different postal address, website or phone number, it is a scam.”
