Warning over 'fraudulent' QR codes on Eastbourne parking signs

‘Fraudulent’ QR codes have been placed on parking signs around Eastbourne, the council has warned.

Eastbourne Borough Council (EBC) said officers are ‘working urgently’ to remove the codes which could lead users to ‘fraudulent websites’.

In a statement, an EBC spokesperson said: “We’ve been made aware of an issue with fraudulent QR codes being placed on parking signs around Eastbourne, particularly at Beachy Head.

“Neither Eastbourne Borough Council nor RingGo use QR codes on any of our parking signage.

"Do not follow these QR codes, you could be directed to fraudulent websites.

"Our officers are working urgently to remove these fake QR codes, but they look convincing and are placed where you might expect them to be.”

EBC said residents should ‘always use the official RingGo app to pay for parking’ and report any suspicious signs to the council ‘immediately’.
