Curry House winners setting high standards

Our proud winners of our recent competition Curry House of the Year 2016 are Shiplu Tandoori Restaurant, 109-111 London Road, Bexhill.

They scoop top prize of the title for 2016, our coveted glass trophy and winners certificate.

Shiplu is a family run business managed by directors Ahmed Ali and Mr Azad. The restaurant has been established for the past 28 years since 1988.

During this time they have built the business up and scooped many awards including the following: Tiffin Cup Runner up 2015, with a further nomination by the Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP this year, resulting in a Highly Commended award for 2016 and Good Eating Guide Outstanding Achievement in 2003. They also have impressive scores in both Trip Advisor and Food Hygiene ratings of 3.5 and 5 respectively.

Situated in the heart of Bexhill, Shiplu Tandoori boasts an impressive pillared front of house, with two exotically vibrant large dining areas to choose from to create the perfect ambiance for your dining experience.

One has a more traditional feel, with cosy mood lighting, individual bays and stunning ornate glass partitions etched with intricate cultural pictures. For those who prefer bright and airy dining, the newly decorated red dining room gives flamboyant colour with more beautiful glass coloured picture carvings. The decor is a feast for the eyes.

The 150 seat restaurant is fully licensed and air conditioned and caters for all dietary needs including catering for food allergies and intolerances.

As well as the traditional tandoori favourites, Shiplu offers an extensive highly commended exotic menu where you can taste an exquisite range of aromatic dishes made with lamb, chicken or prawns.

The team are on hand to advise the best dish to suit your preferences ,which is perfect as there are over 200 foods to choose from their menu. The team want every customer to enjoy the ‘Shiplu Experience’ which reflects in the decor, service and menu choices.

Shiplu Tandoori also offers a takeaway service , offering 10% discount on orders collected and they deliver for free within a 3 mile radius on orders over £12. They cater for large parties and private functions and have disabled facilities. They also have special offers over special occasions.

Shiplu Tandoori is open seven days a week including bank holidays, from 12 -2.30pm lunchtime and 5.30pm-11.30pm evenings (open until 12am Friday and Saturdays). Ahmed, Mr Azad and family were ecstatic to win the coveted title and Mr Azad said: “I would like to thank all our customers who voted for us. Without your continued loyalty and support we wouldn’t be holding this trophy and have established such a good reputation.

“We are especially proud to be recognised and rewarded for our presence in the Bexhill community . We feel honoured to have won out of all the towns in the Observer area and are proud to have our restaurant in Bexhill win the title. To us it helps to raise the profile of the town.”

Our runner-up in second place, with a very close vote result, went to Cinnamon Spice of 18 Kings Road, St Leonards.

Owned by Lukman Emdadul and his family, Cinnamon Spice has been open for the past five years and has established a firm reputation within the curry houses of Hastings.

They have a rating of 4.5 on Trip Advisor with a Certificate of Excellence from the review site.

Lukman and his team offer both a sit in air conditioned restaurant and takeaway service and are also signed up to Just East, Hungry House and Chef Online, so members of these services can experience their fine Indian cuisine as well.

They serve all our Indian favourites from their five star food hygiene rated kitchen plus chefs specials and can adapt dishes to your taste. The fully licensed restaurant is open from 12-2pm, then 5.30-11.30pm, seven days a week.

Third Place went to Angra, 17-21 Cooden Sea Road, Little Common, who also did very well in the voting , we wish Sham and his family a big congratulations on reaching runner up status and the best of luck with his business.
