Cyclists Asda ride raises a hefty sum of cash

KIND-HEARTED shoppers gave a big boost to two cyclists who are warming up for a gruelling 960-mile ride the length of the country.

Susie de Las Casas and Karen Holman, who are in training for their Land’s End to John O’ Groats cycle in May/June, staged a six-hour cyclethon on Friday (March 15) for the two charities they are supporting on the ride.

They set up static cycles in the entrance to the Asda supermarket at Ferring and collected an impressive £413 from customers for the Alzheimer’s Society and Myeloma UK, to add to the £300 they raised at the Virgin Active health club at Rustington a couple of weeks ago.

Susie, 61, of Ham Manor, Angmering, and Karen, 46, of Felpham, are members of Ham Manor Golf Club and are also in training for their ride at Virgin Active.

Said Susie: “We would like to thank the customers for their kindness and generosity, and would also like to say a big thank-you to Asda and all the friendly staff for letting us cycle in the foyer of their store for the day.”

The two friends hope to stage two more cyclethons before setting off, and plan a 5km charity fun jog/walk on April 14 at 2.30pm at the King George V Playing Field, Felpham, with £5 entry for adults and accompanied children free. All are welcome.
