Dame Vera Lynn honoured in Queen's Birthday Honours

The Companions of Honour is awarded for service of conspicuous national importance and is limited to 65 people. Recipients wear the initials CH after their name.

Hide AdDame Vera, who is nine years older than the Queen and was a close friend and favourite of the Queen Mother, chose to mark her 99th year recently with a small, private gathering at her home in Ditchling.
Others honoured include Rod Stewart, who receives a knighthood, and astronaut Tim Peake.
Major Peake was on the International Space Station when he received the news he would become a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George for services to space research and scientific education.
