Dazzling dance display at Rye College

STUDENTS from Rye College pulled of some stunning moves when the College held its 7th Annual Dance Performance earlier this month.

A total of 93 dancers performed in a programme of 26 dance pieces.

The styles seen ranged from abstract and narrative contemporary dance works, to dances inspired by musical theatre, and dance mixed with acrobatics.

The event is proving to be increasingly well supported, with this year’s audience in excess of 200 people.

There are dancers in every year group at Rye College, aged 11-16 and these dancers made up the majority of the cast.

The Rye College Dance Companies work as mixed year groups with Junior Dance Company comprising year 7 and 8, Senior Company including year 9-11 and the Boys Dance Company that has 15 boys from year 7-11.

In addition to the work of these companies alongside work created in dance lessons, Rye College were delighted to be able to include dance work from visiting dancers.

ncluded in the programme was work by year 12 BTEC dance students from Rye Studio School; ‘Velocity reformed’, a company made up of past Rye College Dance students; ‘Pulse Dance Company’ run by Gina Potter in Hastings and Rye; and a company who have performed for four consecutive years in the dance performance under the direction of Jo Frater, LEO Dance Company. This company is an inclusive dance company for people with and without learning disabilities.

Liz Daines, Head of Dance at Rye College, said she was overwhelmed by the amount of people of all ages showing so much passion and enthusiasm for creating and performing high quality dance. She said: “I would like to thank everyone who plays a part in ensuring that dance continues to thrive in schools.
