Both he and his wife, Joyce, were part of the town council’s first administration, in office from 1999 to 2003. Cllr Schueler also served a year as Deputy Mayor of Seaford in 2002/2003.

A spokesperson for the council said: “David was a very active town councillor in and around Seaford.

“He regularly promoted and supported many projects within the town, helping develop Seaford’s tourism, culture and facilities on offer when the town council was very much in its infancy.

“In addition to his councillor duties, David was also Chairman of Seaford Community Partnership for a period; a group that is still very active now, with The Shoal community bench being one of the group’s most recent projects delivered jointly with the town council.

“The town council offers its deepest sympathies to David’s family and on behalf of all present and past town councillors, members of staff and Seafordians, thanks former councillor David Schueler for all he helped achieve for the town.”
