Delivery driverinjured in attack

The incident happened outside Costcutter in Fishmarket Road, Rye, on July 1 this year.

Thomas Anthony Sturgeon, 18, of Winchelsea Road, Rye; Matthew Gary Smith, 18, of The Hawthornes, Broad Oak and a 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons have all been bailed to appear at Hastings Magistrates Court at 9.15am on November 15.

They are each charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

There are additional charges of possessing an offensive weapon and trespassing on railway property.

Each of the accused have bail conditions not to contact each other.

There are also conditions imposed not to attend or be found on the boundaries of Skinners garage or its forecourt or Costcutters, Fishmarket Road, Rye.

Thomas Sturgeon has a condition to live and sleep at 13 Winchelsea Road, Rye,

and to remain indoors between 8pm and 7am unless accompanied by a member of Sanctuary staff.

In an unrelated incident police recently arrested two men and a youth, and are still seeking other suspects, in relation to an assault in the Landgate area where a 42 year old man suffered serious injuries after being attacked with a broken bottle and an iron bar.

The victim suffered deep cuts to his face and right arm.

DCI Rob Morland, of Hastings CID, said: “This was a particularly vicious attack and we are asking anyone with information to come forward.”
