Detectives question husband after wife's death

A 78-year-old man will been questioned by police after the suspicious death of his elderly wife.

Police are not identifying the woman, believed to be in her 70s, until all family members are informed.

They were called to a property in Ham Road, East Worthing, at 12.45 on Wednesday.

A post mortem examination took place on Wednesday night. The exact cause of death has yet to be established, subject to Home Office pathologist Vesna Djurovic's investigation.

Detectives are still at an early stage of the investigation and will interview her 78-year-old husband, who is in custody.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else at this stage.

An incident room has been set up at the Major Incident Suite at Littlehampton, and the investigation is being headed by DI Russ Bagley.
