Disabled Angmering pair on brink of sporting glory

TWO of Angmering’s disabled sporting stars of the future are on the brink of their biggest challenge to date.

Lewis Hammans and Matthew Francis, students at The Angmering School, are both on the edge of representing the nation at the highest level in their two respective sports.

Fifteen-year-old Lewis has been accepted into the England boccia team and narrowly missed out on competing at his first international tournament, in Canada, this April.

The sport is similar to bowls and sees players throw balls close to a target ball to accumulate points.

Lewis, who has been playing boccia for six years, said: “I am really excited about it. I would really like to one day make it on to the Paralympic team. That would be great.”

Matthew is also preparing for his step up to the international stage.
