Discover the joyof Morris dance

Mad Jacks Morris are holding two workshops to teach people how to dance and are looking for new dancers or musicians to play for them.

Mad Jacks take their name from the famous eccentric Squire of Brightling ‘Mad’ Jack Fuller.

They have both a men’s and women’s side and dance out regularly during the summer months in the Rye and Battle area.

Mary Phillips, from Mad Jacks, said: “If you have seen us at Jack in the Green or other local events and have wanted to join in; come to our taster evenings and have a go.

Mad Jacks are based in Hasting and have been dancing in and around the town since 1976.

“We dance in the Cotswold style and welcome new members both as dancers and musicians.

“We are named after Mad Jack Fuller one time Squire of the nearby village of Brightling who in his day was considered something of a character and built many “follies” one of which is “The Sugar Loaf” which is represented on our badge. Our colours are of blue, yellow and red are those of the Cinque Ports, of which Hastings is the premier.

“People who dance The Morris will tell you there is a certain magic about it.”

The open workshops take place on Monday October 28 and Monday November 4, both at 8pm at St Clements Church House, Croft Road, Old Town, Hastings.
