Dispute over stables

Sid Chambers who lives next door to Tanyards Farm, Horam Road is angry with farmer John Dewe for locating a stable next to his property.

Mr Chambers described how he bought one of Mr Dewe's barns to convert into a home.

Now horses are housed in stables inside a metal farm building one metre from his boundary.

Although beef farmer Mr Dewe has agreed to move the stables they will still be inside a barn connected to the building where they were before.

Responding to a report in last week's Express about the problem Mr Chambers said: 'When we bought the barn there was a silage pit next door.

'I said Mr Dewe could build a barn but he then put stables in and the building is just a big echo box.'

Mr Chambers said councillors and planners had not been to see him to discuss his views, and blueprints submitted were not accurate.

'I attended last week's development control meeting and a councillor referred to the drawings as ''about as much use as a chocolate fireguard''.'

Mr Dewe accuses Mr Chambers of being a 'neighbour from hell.'

He said: 'I sold him the barn and he has been nothing but trouble.'

He said this is the first complaint he has had in 40 years of farming.

Planners are acting as informal referees between the pair by allowing Mr Dewe to move his stables but only giving consent for 12 months so the situation can be monitored.
