Dolls' house exhibition

It's all in the detail - tiny plates and cups on saucers next to teapots, all laid out in a perfect old-fashioned teashop waiting for customers.

A dolls' house exhibition held in St Mark's church hall proved to be a popular draw at the weekend with visitors eager to see the the perfect attention to detail of life in miniature.

The exhibition was organised by Margaret Haylock, with daughter Janice, who had on display three dolls' houses, one restaurant and bar, a tearoom, church, and barn.

Margaret has been decorating her own dolls' houses for 18 months and put them on display to raise money for St Mark's church roof extension work.

She was helped by Janice who was in charge of the other side of the hall which had a number of handcraft items for sale, including cards, jewellery, and candles as well as delicious homemade cakes and goodies.

"I never realised before that I liked working with wood," said Margaret.

"I have made all the furnitures, tables and chairs myself - I just find it so interesting.

"My favourite is the tea-rooms - you can't find tea-rooms like that anymore and I love it. I miss those little rooms with lovely teapots, they were so nice."

She felt response from the public had been good and said: "It has been great - I haven't stopped talking."

Among the visitors were Australian tourists Lesley and Ron Hack from Sydney who had seen the notice in the car-park and stopped off for a look.

Leslie herself is a keen dolls' house maker who is back home a member of Precious Little Pieces.
