Double celebration at Lurgashall exhibition

As well as marking the launch of the exhibition last Friday, they congratulated John and Joyce Wilding on their 67th wedding anniversary.

Launched in 2000, the exhibition takes place every three years. John’s working Meccano models and intricate clocks have appeared alongside Joyce’s beautiful handicrafts at every one.

John is a well-known horologist who has written a number of books about clocks and clock making. He is also a Meccanoman, continuing a passion from his youth that has played a key role in his engineering interests.

He was made an MBE in the 2007 New Year’s Honours list for his services to clock making, having spent 40 years documenting traditional skills.

This year’s exhibition also included artworks, photographs, a restored Honda CB72 motorbike, crafts and sculptures.

Sue Lambot, one of the organisers, said: ““Altogether, 178 items were on show and the wonderful imagination shown by the 23 children’s exhibits added greatly to the very real sense of liveliness and humour.”

Many of the visitors who moved among the displays during the three-day show last weekend were heard to say ‘Lurgashall has done it again’.

Sue added: “Lurgashall definitely had done it again. Credit must go not just to the 60 talented exhibitors but to the hardworking teams who worked on the exhibition for days to ensure that it all looked so good.”

All proceeds from the exhibition were donated to the upkeep of Lurgashall Village Hall.
