Double decker buses axed on college route

A SCHEME to change bus operators so schoolchildren can travel on single, rather than double deckers has been given the final stamp of approval by county councillors.

After a lengthy campaign parents of children travelling to Uckfield Community Technology College finally won the day.

Families living in villages to the south of Uckfield are happy that from September their youngsters can be driven to school in two single decker buses with seat-belts.

These will replace the double-decker bus which many thought were dangerous and uncomfortable.

The county council has approved a recommendation by its lead transport member to approve contracts with new operators.

Figures also show the two single deckers will cost the council 112 per day less than the double decker.

One will serve Framfield and the other will serve Halland, Palehouse common, Easons Green and Blackboys.
