Following an intensive, week-long course, the students from Worthing and Shoreham performed a fire drill and proudly demonstrated the new skills they had learned at a special ceremony.

The FireBreak course, run by West Sussex firefighters and Youth Services, teaches 12 to 14-year-olds skills such as first-aid and fire drills.

West Sussex deputy chief fire officer, Lee Neale, said: “Firefighters are strong role models, so a course like FireBreak gives us a fantastic opportunity to inspire and motivate young people, particularly those who may be struggling within the school environment.

“FireBreak is a tough challenge for the students so they should take great confidence from their achievements this week.”
