Drone pictures show aftermath of Crawley fire: eight engines tackle blaze at Furnace Green

Eight engines tackled a fire at Furnace Green in Crawley yesterday afternoon (Friday, August 12), West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said.

The fire service said the incident happened at Lambourne Close and was reported at 5.54pm.

A WSFRS spokesperson announced on Twitter: “We are currently dealing with a fire in Lambourne Close, Furnance Green near Crawley.

“Eight engines currently in attendance.”

They said it was a garage fire that had spread to properties and asked people to avoid the area.

At 7.27pm WSFRS said the incident had been ‘scaled back’ with three engines remaining at the scene and a jet from an aerial ladder platform still in use.

They said a house and garden had been ‘fully involved’ in the fire.

The fire service added that crews from Crawley Fire Station, Horsham Fire Station, Henfield Fire Station, East Grinstead Fire Station and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident with Sussex Police.
