Drug user caught out

A DRUG user was caught with more than £200 worth of illegal drugs during a police raid in Bexhill.

Julie Bird, 42, tried to flush a couple of bags containing heroin down the toilet during the raid at the address in Parkhurst Road on September 6.

At a court hearing at Hastings Magistrates Court on Monday, Mark Kateley, prosecuting, said police found a plastic bag with 20 wraps containing both heroin and crack cocaine, worth an estimated £200.

Mr Kateley said: “The defendant admitted she was a heroin addict and had been dealing in it. She previously kicked the habit for six months but ended up selling £10 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin on the streets for her supplier.”

The court heard that Bird has no previous convictions.

Bird, who now lives in Northampton, pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply and one charge of intending to supply heroin when she appeared in the dock on Monday.

Mark Glendenning, defending, said: “The defendant was not making any profit personally. She has left the Bexhill area and is getting treatment from the drugs misuse services.”

Magistrates sent Bird to be sentenced at the crown court at a date to be arranged.
