The picturesque childhood home of the Duchess of Cornwall is on the market – for the second time in 63 years.

The Laines, in Plumpton – a Grade II listed former rectory is on the market for £3.15m.

It was the family home to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall who also went to school at Dumbrells, in Ditchling.

Her father Major Bruce Shand and his wife Rosalind moved to the area after the second world war to be close to Sonia Cubitt, Camilla’s grandmother. Major Shand left the property after his wife’s death in 1994.

The asking price of the seven bedroom mansion has dropped by £10k since it was listed for £3.25m last year

The sale of the rural property is now being handled by Strutt and Parker LLP.

A spokeswoman for the estate agents, said: “There is an excellent range of accommodation.

“The principal reception rooms have classic Georgian proportions with high ceilings, beautiful working fireplaces and French windows opening to the east and south terraces.

“The house dates back to the 18th century and was extended in the 19th century.”

The house has a Gothic style orangery added in the 1970s, a tennis court and a swimming pool.
