Duke of Edinburgh Awards presentations

YOUNG people in Hastings and Rother have been celebrating their achievements at the annual Duke of Edinburgh Awards special presentation.

The 57 youngsters picked up their certificates this week at a ceremony at the Grove College in St Leonards.

Christine M'Baye, service manager of East Sussex County Council's youth development services introduced the event, and East Sussex Cllr Meg Stroude, lead member for children and families, presented 25 Bronze and seven Silver Awards, and 44 section certificates were presented.

Filsham Valley School, The Grove College, Glyne Gap Faculty (part of Bexhill College), Invicta Open Award Centre and St Mary's School, Bexhill, were all represented on the night and the Duke of Edinburgh participants from St Mary's School gave a slide show presentation of their activities.

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards programme recognises the achievements of young people in four different areas: service to the community, learning a skill, physical recreation, and expeditions.

Councillor Stroude said: "It is always a pleasure to attend these events, and congratulate the young people for their commitment to supporting the local community, learning a skill or taking part in an expedition.

"These are considerable achievements and these young people should be proud of themselves."
