East Grinstead student wins logo award

Year nine pupil Megan Edghill, from Imberhorne School, was one of 100 entries from across West Sussex who took up the challenge to design a new logo for the Board.

The role of the West Sussex Safeguarding Children Board is to ensure that all agencies involved with children in the county are kept safe and enabled to have the best outcomes.

As the previous logo was in need of a refresh, the board decided to open up the re-design to a competitive process involving children aged 11 to 14.

The only brief was that the winning design should reflect some or all of these concepts: caring, safety, support, children and families, warmth and friendliness.

Megan’s entry was chosen by a panel which included young people because of the colour scheme, the simplicity, and because it made them happy.

During the prize giving, Jimmy Doyle, Chair of the WSSCB, presented Megan with a £50 voucher, and handed Head of Key Stage 3, Heather Smith, £50 to spend on resources for the school.

Megan said: “I thought it sounded like fun and quite a challenge, I was so happy when I found out I had won.”

Peter Evans, West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children – Start of Life, said: “I was pleased with the level of response to the competition.

“All the young people who entered clearly didn’t lack imagination or creativity.

“We want to involve the child’s voice in the whole safeguarding process more and raise the profile of children’s safeguarding generally. Hopefully through this competition and working with schools we have been able to do this.”
