East Preston pupils at Parliament as '˜terror incident' unfolds

School pupils and teachers from East Preston Junior School are '˜safe' at Parliament following today's '˜terror incident', West Sussex County Council has confirmed.

A spokesman for West Sussex County Council said: “The class was on school trip to the Houses of Parliament. All of them are safe and parents have been informed.”

MP for Worthing West Sir Peter Bottomley also said the pupils and teachers were safe.

He said: “East Preston Junior school pupils and teachers are well and happy in the Palace of Westminster Education Centre.

“I spoke with them shortly before the incident.

“Their delayed journey home will start when it is possible for them to leave the Palace. Their coach is on standby outside the security area.

“They will remember the day.”

Sir Peter extended his sympathy to those involved.

Metropolitan Police Commander BJ Harrington said they are treating the incident at Parliament as a ‘terrorist incident’.
