East Preston votes 4-1 against village hall extension

VILLAGERS have voted almost four to one against proposals to extend East Preston Village Hall.

Voters queued in heavy rain yesterday (Wednesday, August 25) to take part in the ballot, which asked whether the parish council should be borrowing up to 600,000 in the current climate to fund the extension.

From a turnout of 23 per cent of electors, 891 (78.2 per cent) voted 'no' and 247 (21.8 per cent) voted 'yes'.

The extension would have provided additional storage space for groups using the hall, an office for the parish council staff and an extra meeting room, and there would also have been a new play area and relocated car park.

The Gazette understands there are likely to be resignations both from the village hall foundation and from the parish council over the issue.

We'll have more reaction later on this website and a full story in next week's (September 2) Littlehampton Gazette.
